UI Medical Student Receives AMA Leadership Award

Sara Brenner, a fourth-year student at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, has received a 2006 American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation Leadership Award.

The award provides medical students, residents, fellows, young physicians and international medical graduate physicians special training to develop their skills as future leaders in medicine. Recipients of the award demonstrate outstanding non-clinical leadership skills in advocacy, community service and/or education.

Brenner serves as president of the Medical Student Section of the American College of Preventative Medicine and has participated in international research and medical mission trips. In addition to participating in the Leadership Award training, Brenner attended the AMA's National Advocacy Conference.

Brenner was one of 55 individuals, and one of only 15 medical students nationwide, honored with the AMA Foundation Leadership Award at its annual Excellence in Medicine Awards ceremony March 12 in Washington, D.C.

The AMA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the American Medical Association. Founded in 1950, its mission is to advance health care through support of programs in medical education, research and service.
