Writers' Workshop Alumnus Sam White Reads From His Debut Collection Nov. 7
University of Iowa Writers' Workshop graduate Sam White will read from his first collection of poems, "The Goddess of the Hunt is Not Herself," at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7 in the Prairie Lights bookstore, 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City. The reading is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Writers' Workshop faculty member Dean Young wrote, "At times, these poems seem to have found a new way, uncluttered and deft amid the miraculous and disastrous, to talk directly from the spirit."
White's poems have appeared in Ploughshares, the Paris Review, Jubilat, American Letters & Commentary, the Harvard Review, Verse and other journals. His account about reading poetry aloud to passers-by in Times Square appeared in Poets & Writers. He teaches at the University of Rhode Island.
The Writers' Workshop is an academic unit of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
