Memphis Iowa Club Hosts Taste Tests from Hawkeye Cookbook

Want to try Tim Dwight's poppy seed bread or Dan Gable's Olympic cookies? Come try these and other tasty dishes from a newly-published cookbook, "Hawkeye Style, A Collection of Hawkeye Recipes" at two free taste tests Oct. 21 in Coralville.

The University of Iowa Alumni Association's Memphis Iowa Club is hosting the tastings from 3 to 6 p.m. at Game Day Iowa, 800 2nd St., and The Heartland Inn, 87 2nd St., both in Coralville.

The club will be serving up cuisine from "Hawkeye Style," a cookbook containing more than 400 recipes with 55 contributed by 31 Hawkeye celebrities, including UI President David Skorton, Kirk Ferentz, Bob Bowlsby, Dan Gable, Jim Zalesky, Steve Alford, Jim Zabel, Gary Dolphin and many more. Some of the recipes to be sampled on Oct. 21 include Memphis-style barbecue, jerked wings, barbecue sausage, Texas slaw, Alford's basketball party mix, assorted dips and salsas and several cookie and dessert recipes.

Copies of "Hawkeye Style" are currently available at Game Day Iowa and Collegiate Sports (Coral Ridge Mall, Coralville) or online at www.iowalum.com/memphis. Cookbooks will also be available for sale at both taste test locations. Books are $17 each with all proceeds benefiting the Memphis Iowa Club Scholarship Fund at the University of Iowa Foundation. Each year the Memphis Iowa Club awards a partial scholarship to a UI student from the Memphis, Tenn., area.

The University of Iowa Alumni Association's network of Iowa Clubs serves as an extending arm from the UI to alumni and friends across the country. Iowa Clubs promote the university and provide networking opportunities for graduates through the planning of a variety of educational, cultural and social programs. Iowa Clubs work as an integral part of the association's mission to serve as the gateway for alumni to strengthen their relationships with one another and with the UI.
