UI Leader Elected President Of Nurse Executive Organization

Linda Q. Everett, Ph.D., associate director, chief nursing officer and director of Nursing Services and Patient Care at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and associate dean for clinical practice in the UI College of Nursing, is the new president-elect of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association.

Selected through a national membership online vote, Everett will serve as AONE's president-elect for a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2006, and will become president for a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2007. From Jan. 1, 2008 through December 2008 she will serve as past-president.

Everett also serves as treasurer of the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation Board of Directors, one of the world's largest professional organizations for nurses. Sigma Theta Tau has more than 240,000 inducted members. In addition, Everett will be inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in November 2005.

Everett directs the Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care as well as a number of hospitals-based departments at UI Hospitals and Clinics. She is responsible for approximately 2,000 nursing professionals. Everett joined the staff of UI Hospitals and Clinics in January 1999. During her tenure, the department received the prestigious Magnet Hospital Designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. UI Hospitals and Clinics was the first hospital in Iowa to earn the international award.
