Information Sessions On Medicare Prescription Coverage Available
The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy will hold information sessions on the Medicare prescription drug coverage program - also known as Medicare Part D - for seniors Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Iowa City Public Library in downtown Iowa City.
The sessions are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the library's computer classroom. Twenty computer workstations will be available for use during the sessions, so advanced registration is required. To register or for more information, call 319-356-5200. Registration is available online at http://calendar.icpl.org/view-entry.php?id=2086&day=30&month=11&year=2005.
Seniors attending the sessions are encouraged to bring their Medicare card; any correspondence from the Social Security Administration regarding their eligibility for low-income assistance; any correspondence from their private insurance carrier(s); and a list of all medications they are taking.
Michael Kelly, Pharm.D., clinical associate professor and associate dean for academic affairs in the UI College of Pharmacy, and UI pharmacy students will help seniors log onto the Medicare Web site (http://www.medicare.gov) to get information about the Medicare prescription drug plans that are available.
"We hope this will be an easy way for seniors to see what their options are," Kelly said. "They can sign up for a Medicare drug plan, but it's not required at these sessions. We mainly want to give seniors the information they might need to go home and have a discussion with their families."
