UI Dance Department Presents Fall Graduate/Undergraduate Concert Dec. 1-3

The University of Iowa Dance Department will present its Graduate/Undergraduate Concert for the fall semester at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 1-3 in the Space/Place Theatre of UI North Hall.

The concert will feature nine new works by student choreographers, selected by the faculty adjudication committee of Charlotte Adams, Deanna Carter and Daniel Stark. The concert features dances whose musical scope ranges from popular music by artists including Sarah McLachlan, Brokeback and Norah Jones to the Romantic-era music of Franz Schubert, contemporary-classical work recorded by the Kronos Quartet and the music of contemporary Chinese artist Liu Xing.

The program will include:

  • "Twisted Platform," a solo choreographed by Nicole Hussain, featuring a live performance by Adam Morford;
  • "Nocturne," choreographed by Sarah Perry to selections from the film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind";
  • "Rear View," choreography by Abigail Gray, set to music by Brokeback and Prefuse 73;
  • "Middle Child," choreographed and performed by Ellie Goudie-Averill, Jennifer Kray, and Suzanne Ryan to Harry Parch's "Two Studies on Ancient Greek Scales" by Harry Partch, performed by the Kronos Quartet;
  • "Jonesing," choreographed by Jenna Riegel to music performed by Norah Jones, Kathy Hussey, Roy Book Binder, Jen Rathbun, Sounds of the Czars and Sarah McLachlan;
  • "The Only Constant is Change," choreography by Julia Katcher to music by Crystal Method;
  • "The Song of Mountain Forest," a solo choreographed and performed by Huiying Zhang to music by Liu Xing;
  • "One Day...," choreography by Kelly McDonald; and
  • "Habitual Ritual," choreographed by Brenda Serrata Tally to music by Franz Schubert, Afrika Bambaataa and Steven "Boogie" Brown.

Tickets are $12 (UI student $6; Free admission for children under 12).

Tickets may be purchased in advance from the University Box Office in the Iowa Memorial Union. In addition to window sales at the Iowa Memorial Union, the University Box Office may be reached by phone at 319-335-3041 or toll-free 800-346-4401. The fax number is 319-335-3407. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5-9 p.m. Sunday. In addition to cash and checks, the University Box Office accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards.

Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the door.

North Hall is located at the north end of Madison Street on the UI campus. It is accessible from both Madison Street and the Anne Cleary Walk. Parking is available in the North Campus Parking Ramp.
