UI Occupational Health Nurse Honored
An occupational health nursing specialist with University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is the recipient of the Iowa 2006 Occupational Health Nursing Leadership Award.
Lynn Cuddihy received the honor from the Northeast Iowa Association of Occupational Health Nurses (NIAOHN). One outstanding leader in each state earns the award in recognition of dedicated and exemplary leadership ability.
Cuddihy serves as the director of Work Related Health Care Services at UI Hospitals and Clinics. The office acts as the point of contact for employers and outside entities that refer workers' compensation cases to the University. It provides support for internal departments who provide services to injured workers.
Cuddihy is a certified occupational health nurse-specialist, a certified case manager and a certified disability management specialist. Her background is in case management of injured workers for state and federal workers compensation. She was an independent case manager in California for more than 10 years. Prior to that, she worked in the hospital setting, home health, an industrial medical clinic, as a company occupational health nurse and as a consultant for the railroad.
Cuddihy oversees programs, services and activities that meet the following employer needs:
-- Facilitates scheduling as needed for patients needing occupational health care at UI Hospitals and Clinics for work-related injuries/illnesses.
-- Assures that inquiries from employers and carriers with regard to the treatment status and work status of patients are handled expediently with one phone number to call to obtain information.
-- Cooperates with external case managers and other entities as needed to coordinate care and facilitate referrals.
-- Supervises, facilitates or provides needed case management and coordination of services for patients entering the institution for work-related health care services.
