University of Iowa News Release Nov. 15, 2005 'Live Java Blend Volume 2' Benefit CD Now Available
Sixteen artists donated selected performances of their original songs to create the CD, which benefits public radio in Iowa. All shows were recorded before live audiences as part of the Friday morning broadcast produced and hosted by Ben Kieffer. This collection features not only the work of Iowa artists like blues legend Patrick Hazell, folk-rock favorite Ben Schmidt, Fairfield singer-songwriter Jeffrey Hedquist and Tipton native Matthew Wright, but also original songs by top-notch musicians from coast to coast. The work of award-winners Rachael Davis of Boston, Sarah Sharp of Austin, Willy Porter of Milwaukee and Kelly Joe Phelps of Seattle will appear on the disc. The first "Live Java Blend" CD released in December 2004 also featured artists performing original works on the program. The successful CD netted more than $10,000 in sales. "Live Java Blend Volume 2" is available at several locations in southeast Iowa: in the Iowa City/Coralville area at all Java House locations, New Pioneer Co-op, Iowa Artisans Gallery, The Galleries Downtown, Prairie Lights Books, Iowa Book and Supply, UI Hancher Gift Showcase, The Vortex and Real Records; in Cedar Rapids at CD Warehouse and Brewed Awakenings Coffee House; in Fairfield at Café Paradiso and in Muscatine at Unity Hospital Gift Shop. The CD is $15 and can be ordered by mail through the WSUI website http://wsui.uiowa.edu/java_blend_II.htm, where listeners can hear online audio samples from "Live Java Blend Volume 2."
