UI Leader Chosen As Fellow In American Academy Of Nursing

The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) recently selected Linda Q. Everett, Ph.D., associate director and chief nursing officer at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, as a Fellow of the organization.

The AAN is comprised of approximately 1,700 nursing leaders in education, administration, practice and research. AAN is constituted to anticipate national and international trends in health care and address resulting issues of health care knowledge and policy. Not only is the invitation to Fellowship recognition of one's accomplishments within the nursing profession, but also affords an opportunity to work with other leaders in health care in addressing the issues of the day.

The induction of new fellows into AAN will occur at AAN's annual meeting and conference Nov. 12 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Everett also serves as treasurer of the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation board of directors, one of the world's largest professional organizations for nurses. Sigma Theta Tau has more than 240,000 inducted members.

Everett directs the Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care at UI Hospitals and Clinics. The department consists of about 1,400 nursing professionals. Everett joined the staff of UI Hospitals and Clinics in January 1999. During her tenure, the department received the prestigious Magnet Hospital Designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. UI Hospitals and Clinics is the first hospital in Iowa to earn the international award.
