Dance Forum/UI Youth Ballet Present Spring Concert May 21-22

The University of Iowa Youth Ballet Company and Dance Forum will present a spring concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 22 in the Space/Place Theatre of UI North Hall.

The Youth Ballet Company will perform "Etudes," choreographed by Harald Lander and restaged by Grace Snider.

The performers will be Elizabeth Shy, Cassandra Albert, Emma Barden, Sabrina Phillips, Ally Ordman, Holly Harmon, Lucy Smith, Alaine Hippee, Natalie Brooks, Baylie Ostler, Olivia Symmonds, Angelique VanDorpe, Ada Cassell, Paola Jaramillo, Takako Soma, Jennifer Dyken, Madeleine Moloney, Aubrey Smith, Jo Jo Silverman, Francesca Crutchfield-Stoker, Molly Miller and Katie Goldsmith.

Dance Forum will present a new ballet by Diego Carrasco, performed by Kathryn Lyon, Senead Short, Miriam Miller, Cami Hippee, Juliann Skanda, Emma Oliverius and Kate Van Fosson.

Ballet 1 students will perform "Sanctuary," choreographed by Kathryn Smith. The dancers will be Grace Chandlee, Maisie Howell, Cee Cee Sheng, Reia Tochigi, Hilah Kohen, Jordan Cronbaugh and Francesa Rizzo.

Pre-ballet students will perform Smith's "Ronne Ronne": Sarah Bran, Isobel Holmes, Evelyn Galstad, Sonali Durham, Corrie Brase, Melissa Murray, Anna Berhow, Nicole Ruffenach and Emma Arp.

Tickets are $12 for non-students and $6 for students. Audience members 12 and under will be admitted free.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from the University Box Office in the Iowa Memorial Union. In addition to window sales at the Iowa Memorial Union, the University Box Office may be reached by phone at 319-335-3041 or toll-free 800-346-4401. The fax number is 319-335-3407. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m Monday through Saturday and 5-9 p.m. Sunday. In addition to cash and checks, the University Box Office accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards.

Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the door.

North Hall is located at the north end of Madison Street on the UI campus. It is accessible from both Madison Street and the Anne Cleary Walk. Parking is available in the North Campus Parking Ramp.

Dance Forum and the UI Youth Ballet are community programs of the UI Dance Department, a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Dance Forum, directed by Kathryn Smith and Grace Snider, offers beginning through advanced classes in ballet, modern, jazz, tap and pointe for children and adults of all ages. Classes are taught by professional instructors from the community, as well as qualified undergraduate and graduate students from the Dance Department. The goal of Dance Forum is to offer professional quality instruction in an environment that is relaxed and non-competitive.
