Third Of Four UI Ombudsperson Finalists On Campus This Week

The third of four finalists for the University of Iowa Ombudsperson position is on campus today and Tuesday for interviews and an open forum.

Andrea Goldblum, assistant dean of students and director of the Office of Student Integrity at the Georgia Institute of Technology, will hold a forum at 3:30 p.m. today (Monday, May 9) in the Iowa Memorial Union's Terrace Room.

Two other finalists -- Cynthia Joyce of New Haven, Conn., and Rita Burns of Milwaukee -- have already interviewed on campus. The fourth and last finalist, Laura Reed, associate director of human resources and director of organizational effectiveness at the UI, will interview on campus May 16-17, and her forum is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. May 16 in the IMU's Terrace Room.

In her current position Goldblum is responsible for administering the Georgia Institute of Technology's Honor Code and Code of Conduct, conducts investigations and provides training. She also serves on the school's Sexual Assault Task Force, the Institute Communication Group, the Academic Integrity Committee and the Georgia Tech Police Department Assessment Board.

Her degrees include six credits toward a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Florida International University, a master's in higher education from the University of Michigan, 15 credits toward a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Miami and a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Miami.

The finalists are being considered for a vacancy that will be left when Maile Sagen, who has held the position since 1989, retires in July. The UI Ombudsperson's Office offers informal dispute resolution for students, faculty and staff, and complaints to the office are confidential. The office's mission is to see that all members of the university community are treated fairly, as well as to serve as an information resource.
