Women's Center Offers Groups Beginning In Late March
The Women's Resource & Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa will offer six support and discussion groups beginning in late March. All groups are open to the public.
"The State of Your Union" is a new discussion group designed to provide a comfortable, safe space for participants to talk about romantic relationships, to identify their needs in such relationships and the work it might take to sustain them. The group is open to anyone interested in sharing common ties and potential challenges, regardless of their current relationship status or experience. The group will meet on Wednesday evenings beginning March 23.
"The Real World" is a new group designed for individuals facing questions of life after college who seek a sense of empowerment. It will focus especially on the transition facing those about to graduate from college. The group will meet on Thursday evenings beginning March 31.
A new discussion group, "Home Again," is being offered to explore the experience of returning home after living abroad. Participants will find and provide support for one another by sharing their experiences in adjusting to being "home again" after having been abroad for study, military service, work or other reasons. The group will meet on Tuesday evenings, beginning March 29.
"Living Single" is a new support group designed for women to discuss the experience of being single and the challenges it can present. The group will explore a variety of topics centered on singlehood through discussions of episodes of television programs featuring single life in our society, such as "Sex and the City," "The L Word," and "Living Single." The group will meet on Thursday evenings beginning March 31.
"Centered Self" is a group designed to provide a comfortable, peaceful environment to assist participants both in identifying and overcoming barriers that may keep them from taking good care of themselves. The group will explore a variety of self-care techniques, including meditation, music, comfort foods, yoga, exercise, journaling, self-pampering and more. The group will meet on Thursday evenings, beginning March 31.
"The Thin Line" is a group offering participants support through pro-active discussions about body image and related issues. It will meet on Thursday evenings, beginning March 31.
Pre-registration is required to attend these groups, and all are open to the public. While there is no charge for participation in either group, there is a suggested donation of $10 for the entire run of the group, to help cover the Center's costs in providing them.
