New UI Program Offers One-On-One Language Training; Director To Speak March 21
A new University of Iowa program offers one-on-one, free language training with a native speaker from the UI community. The Autonomous Language Learning Network (ALL Net) is a service of the UI International Programs National Resource Center for students, faculty and staff interested in study and research abroad.
ALL Net director Marie Kruger will speak about "Learning Foreign Languages in Style," at the next International Mondays lecture from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, March 21, in the UI International Center Lounge. This event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided.
"Many international opportunities require communication skills in a language not currently taught at the University of Iowa," said Kruger. "Now, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, ALL Net offers a novel resource to study these less commonly taught languages through autonomous language learning."
Kruger received a doctorate in African languages and literature at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she taught beginning and intermediate Swahili.
For more information on this lecture or International Mondays, contact Amy Green at 319-335-1433.
The International Mondays series is sponsored by UI International Programs and the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization and presents discussions with individuals who have had international experiences. The lectures are usually from noon to 1 p.m. every Monday in the International Center Lounge or other locations on campus throughout the academic year with the exception of holidays and breaks.
UI International Programs consists of a number of offices, centers, degree programs, academic programs, research projects and services. Organized under the associate provost for academic programs and dean of international programs, these units serve to further internationalize the campus and the community and promote global scholarship, research and teaching.
