Know the Score Live! Previews Iowa City Jazz Festival
KSUI's "Know the Score Live!" will be broadcast from Iowa City's Pedestrian Mall Friday, July 1, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the opening night of the 2005 Iowa City Jazz Festival.
Iowa City Jazz Festival executive director Steve Grismore will preview the weekend's jazz lineup with "Know the Score" host Joan Kjaer. They will be joined by the hosts of KSUI's "As Night Falls" jazz program and special guest Phil Jones, vice president of Student Services at the University of Iowa.
The show will also feature a performance by the United Jazz Ensemble, a group of musicians from City and West High Schools in Iowa City. These students have been a part of the jazz festival for over 10 years and are members of the award-winning ensembles led by Bill Pringle and Rich Medd.
The FunkDaddies, a five piece funk/soul/R&B band based in Iowa City, will end the show with their own Bay Area style of funk, as well as classic hits by Marvin Gaye, The Commodores, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Jeffrey Osborne, James Brown, Isley Brothers, Tower of Power, Santana and Earth Wind and Fire.
People are invited to attend the free show on the Pedestrian Mall, hear the show on KSUI at 91.7 FM or in streaming audio on the KSUI website www.ksui.uiowa.edu.
