UI Alumni Association Publication Wins National Award
The University of Iowa Alumni Association's flagship publication, Iowa Alumni Magazine, recently won its eighth award for writing and design excellence from a national competition that honors the best practices and communications of U.S. colleges and alumni associations.
The cover shot of its April 2004 issue earned the Iowa Alumni Magazine a bronze award in the Visual Design in Print category of the Circle of Excellence awards organized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Each year, educational organizations from across the country submit their best publications, programs, and events for this prestigious competition.
From almost 400 Visual Design in Print entries, Iowa Alumni Magazine was named one of 10 bronze medal winners. Judges also selected nine gold and 10 silver medal winners in this category. Iowa Alumni Magazine's winning cover illustrated a feature article about the gastric bypass surgery developed at the UI. Appearing with the cover line "Slim Fast," the photo depicted a scalpel tucked alongside a fork and spoon in a table setting of surgical scrubs.
Iowa Alumni Magazine is published for the benefit of members of the UI Alumni Association (UIAA), although selected articles are available to the public online at www.iowalum.com/magazine.
Membership in the UIAA is open to all friends and graduates of the University of Iowa; for details, visit www.iowalum.com or call 1-800-IOWALUM (469-2586).
