UI Recreational Services Offers Summer Fitness Program

The University of Iowa Division of Recreational Services will offer U Go!, a fitness program for youth and families starting June 20 at the Field House on the UI campus.

Recreational Services created the summer fitness program in response to reports citing the inactivity found in many families and individuals in the U.S., and the increased obesity rates among Americans.

The mission of this program, named U Go!, is to increase physical activity in youths and families, offering them the support, guidance and motivation to become physically active, lead a healthy lifestyle and have fun in a non-competitive atmosphere.

"We want to encourage parents and their children to develop healthy routines at an early age and maintain them throughout their lives," said program coordinator Angela Charsha.

Several Fun and Fitness classes will be offered for youth entering grades 7-12, as well as a parent/youth Cycle With Me class, and personal training options available for individuals, small groups and families. The classes, all offered in UI Field House, will run for four weeks starting June 20. Class fees range from $30 to $60, with personal training starting at $160 for five 1-hour sessions.

To register for the classes and training, visit the U Go! Website at or contact Charsha at 319-335-3548.
