July 25 WSUI Reading Looks 'Inside The FDA'
The July 25 edition of "Live from Prairie Lights" on University of Iowa radio station WSUI, AM 910, will take a look "Inside the FDA," care of the new book by business writer Fran Hawthorne. The program will broadcast a live event at 8 p.m. in the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City. The program, hosted by WSUI's Julie Englander, is accessible on the Internet at wsui.uiowa.edu.
"Inside the FDA: The Business and Politics Behind the Drugs We Take and the Food We Eat" is a penetrating study of the scientific uncertainties, risk-reward compromises and the constantly changing legal landscape that influences the life-and-death decisions of the Food and Drug Administration.
Hawthorne is senior contributing editor of Institutional Investor and has connections within the business and finance communities. She has been covering health care and business for more than 20 years for Fortune, Crain's New York Business and other publications, and she now writes regularly for newspapers and magazines including the New York Times, Worth and Self. She is also the author of "The Merck Druggernaut."
