Modestou Named Interim Director Of Equal Opportunity And Diversity
Jennifer Modestou, director of campus relations and associate director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, has been appointed interim director of the office by University of Iowa President David Skorton.
Modestou will replace Charlotte Westerhaus, who leaves this month to become the vice president of diversity and inclusion for the NCAA.
As interim director, Modestou will oversee UI's compliance with affirmative action, equal opportunity laws and civil rights laws and policies. This will be the second time that Modestou has been interim director, having led the office in 2001-2002, between the directorships of Susan Mask and Westerhaus. Modestou has also chaired the university's Family Issues Charter Committee. Modestou has worked in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity since 1992.
"With her many years of experience at the University of Iowa, Jennifer will provide stability and direction to the office as we search for a new permanent director," said Skorton.
Modestou received an A.B. degree (with honors) in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. She has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Society of Human Resources Management. In addition to her position at the University of Iowa, she currently serves as secretary for Region VII of the American Association for Affirmative Action.
