Art Building Truss Delivery Will Complicate Traffic Tuesday

The delivery of a mammoth steel truss will complicate travel on Dubuque St., Park Road, and Riverside Drive near the University of Iowa Arts Campus Tuesday, Feb. 1, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The 135-foot-long truss will be delivered in two pieces, one 85 feet long, the other 50 feet long. The pieces will travel on two tractor-trailers from Interstate 80, south on Dubuque Street, west on Park Road and then south on Riverside to the construction site. The turns, from Dubuque to Park and the much tighter turn onto Riverside, will use the entire width of the streets and move slowly. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The truss is a structural member of the new University of Iowa art building addition under construction on the west side of Riverside Drive. It was originally scheduled for delivery in 2004, but its fabrication and delivery were  slowed by weather and other issues. The truss is traveling from Maple Plain, Minn.
