Issue 11 Of Wapsipinicon Almanac Will Be Sampled Jan. 28 On WSUI
Editor Tim Fay and several contributors to issue 11 of his Wapsipinicon Almanac will read excerpts at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, on the "Live from Prairie Lights" series on University of Iowa radio station WSUI, AM 910.
The reading, hosted by Julie Englander, will be a free event at the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City. Listen on the Internet at http://wsui.uiowa.edu.
The Wapsipinicon Almanac has been edited and published by Fay at his Route 3 Press in rural Anamosa/Monticello since 1988. Issue 11, which hit area newsstands just before Christmas, features the publication's typical mix of fiction, reviews, essays, poetry, art and homey information, packaged in the format of a folksy, old-time almanac.
The Catstep Review described the almanac as "one of the finest regional press publications you'll ever read. It's not often you'll find this much local color collected in one place." And an article in the Des Moines Register dubbed it, "Part New Yorker, part Farmers' Almanac."
The almanac is set on a 60-year-old Linotype machine, and printed on a '50s-vintage, two-color cylinder press. The cover is printed on a German press from the 1930s.
