WHAT: A Mini Medical School program on heart and lung health for seventh-graders at Weeks Middle School in Des Moines

WHEN: 9:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25

WHERE: Weeks Middle School, 901 East Park Ave., in Des Moines

Students from the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine will present the Mini Medical School program to Ms. Koscielak's seventh-grade science classes at Weeks Middle School. A majority of the students are Latino.

Each session (five total) will last approximately 45 minutes. The sessions will include hands-on learning opportunities: using a stethoscope; looking at chest x-rays; studying heart models; and participating in science experiments.

The Feb. 25 event occurs as part of a two-day Mini Medical School program on Latino health in Des Moines (http://www.medicine.uiowa.edu/newsevents/events9.html).
