UI Specialists Staff Geriatric Assessment Outreach Clinic In Williamsburg

University of Iowa geriatricians are now staffing a geriatric assessment outreach clinic twice a month at the Highland Ridge Senior Living Community, located at 100 Village View Circle in Williamsburg.

Gerald Jogerst, M.D., UI professor of family medicine, leads the UI team that staffs the clinic on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. The UI team members focus on serving as consultants and closely coordinating care with the patients' primary physicians.

The service is designed to support primary care physicians in caring for patients affected by challenging health issues, including dementias such as Alzheimer's disease, balance disorders and vision problems. Primary care physicians and family members may refer patients to the UI team, which serves as consultants and develops a care plan in coordination with the family, patient and primary physician.

The outreach clinic offers a team approach to the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of older adults. Team members include physicians, nurses, social workers and pharmacists who specialize in geriatric care. Their goal is to maximize the health, functional status and quality of life for elder adults.

Patients receive a thorough physical examination complete with necessary laboratory tests. Suggestions for treatments, medications, nutrition, activities, preventive health and wellness steps are carefully discussed between team members, Highland Ridge staff and the patients' primary physicians, the patients and their families.

Schedule an appointment in the geriatric assessment outreach clinic at the Highland Ridge Senior Living community in Williamsburg by calling toll free 877-891-5350 or 319-353-7208.
