UI Names Ketelsen Associate Director For Marketing Communications

Scott Ketelsen, Kirkwood Community College's director of marketing services, has been hired as associate director for marketing communications in the University of Iowa University Relations office, effective Sept. 12.

Ketelsen will have primary responsibility for conceptualizing, researching, developing and implementing University Relations integrated marketing plans for the UI. The initial emphasis will be on admissions marketing communications, but he will also recommend strategic future directions for university integrated marketing efforts spearheaded by University Relations.

Ketelsen will report directly to Steve Parrott, director of University Relations, as well as serve on the senior management team for University Relations, and will supervise the directors of the University Relations Publications and Web units. His salary will be $75,000.

"Scott Ketelsen has a great combination of education and experience in marketing higher education. He has a firm grasp of the issues in higher education," Parrott said. "Moreover, at Kirkwood Community College, he was involved with both conceptualizing and implementing successful communications initiatives. We look forward to him bringing his successful experience in marketing higher education to The University of Iowa."

Since July 2001, Ketelsen has been director of marketing services at Kirkwood, where he implemented all advertising and public relations efforts. Among other accomplishments he created the school's annual advertising campaign, which focused on attracting high school graduates seeking credit courses.

From 1999 to 2001, Ketelsen worked in Kirkwood's continuing education program, first as director of its outreach program and then as director of operations.

He holds a master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a bachelor of arts in communication and public relations, with a minor in business marketing, from the University of Northern Iowa.
