UI Dance Department Presents Spring Undergraduate Concert May 5-7

The University of Iowa Dance Department will present its spring Undergraduate Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, May 5-7, in the Space/Place Theatre of UI North Hall.

The diverse program, selected through adjudication by faculty members Alan Sener, Jennifer Kayle and Armando Duarte, will be:

-- "Three is a Crowd," choreographed by Blaire Bjerke to "Summer" from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons";

-- "When Your Smile Pressed Against Mine," choreographed by Julieane Rosing to "For Heaven's Sake" by Tina Brooks;

-- "Paperwhite," choreographed by Gretchen Alterowitz in collaboration with performer Laura Buckholz;

-- "Fireflies in a Rainstorm," choreographed by Krista Brittain to music improvised by Laura Goddard;

-- "Oculus elus est in passere," choreographed by Meghan Osterman to "His eye is on the Sparrow" performed by Lauren Hill;

-- "The Luxury of Leaving," choreographed and performed by Lisa Kottemann to "Dedecek" by Iva Bittova;

-- "Off the Branch," choreographed by Kelly Shipman to excerpts from "Solitudes" by Dan Gibson and "Blackbird" by the Beatles;

-- "Innards" choreographed by Abby Gray to "Sixyten" by Boards of Canada;

-- "Breaking out of Prison within the Prism," choreographed and performed by Leigha Mena to music by Tek Winesberry;

-- "It Sounds Like. . .," choreographed by Keeley Walsh to "Nuago" by Rene Aubry;

-- "Esmeralda Variation," choreographed by Jules Perrot and performed by Jennifer Quint with music from the ballet "La Esmeralda" by Cesare Pugni;

-- "Prior to Here," choreographed by Lindsay Schwab to music from the soundtrack to the film "Road to Perdition" by Thomas Newman;

-- "Killing Freedom," choreographed and performed by Selena McKnight to "60 Minas to a Talent";

-- "Out of Hibernation," choreographed by Stephanie Huddlesto to "Bach Street Prelude" by Vanessa Mae;

-- "My Name is Not," choreographed by Holly Knights to "Star of the County Down" arranged by Edgar Meyer; and

-- "Stung," choreographed by Mareva Minerb to "La del Ruso" by Gotan Project.

Tickets for the May 5-7 performances are $12; UI student $6; free admission for children under 12.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from the University Box Office in the Iowa Memorial Union. In addition to window sales at the Iowa Memorial Union, the University Box Office may be reached by phone at 319-335-3041 or toll-free 800-346-4401. The fax number is 319-335-3407. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5-9 p.m. Sunday. In addition to cash and checks, the University Box Office accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards.

Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the door.

North Hall is located at the north end of Madison Street on the UI campus. It is accessible from both Madison Street and the Anne Cleary Walk. Parking is available in the North Campus Parking Ramp.

The UI Dance Department is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
