Three Hawkeyes Place At The National Collegiate Tae Kwon Do Championships.

On April 16, the University of Iowa Tae Kwon Do Team competed and earned medals at the National Collegiate Tae Kwon Do Championships in Berkley, Calif. Three team members were among the top winners: Jeremy Evans of Urbandale, Iowa received a gold medal; Melanie Jess of Decatur, Ill. won a silver medal and Christi Johnson of Estherville, Iowa earned a bronze medal.

This tournament is the most prestigious collegiate Tae Kwon Do tournament in the country and a stepping-stone for those wishing to represent the United States at the world University Games, according to UI team advisor Ned Ashton. Many current and former Olympic Athletes have used this tournament as a springboard for their Olympic aspirations, he said.

The University of Iowa Tae Kwon Do Team is one of the sport clubs sponsored by the University of Iowa Division of Recreational Services. This competition was for college students, but the UI team is open to any faculty, staff or students.
