'Alumni At Last' Celebration Set for April 27

The University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) is hosting a one-stop-shop for graduating students at the "Alumni at Last" celebration, which will be Wednesday, April 27, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the second floor ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union. The event is co-sponsored by University Book Stores and the Alumni Loan Consolidation Program.

Several exhibitors will be on hand to help students with graduation and life after college. The book store will take cap and gown orders, and UI Admissions will also answer any last minute questions for graduates. Information will be given about class rings, diploma frames and graduation announcements.

In addition, future graduates can join the UIAA, an Iowa Club, or Alumni Seeking Iowa Students (ASIST), and explore alumni travel opportunities. UI Career Center and Alumni Career Exchange staff will be available to talk about job placement and interviewing.

The first 500 attendees will receive a free graduation gift. Food will be served and all graduates are eligible for prizes including a 10-year membership to the UIAA, a $250 gift certificate at Talbot's, a $250 gift certificate to Austin Burke, a Hawkeye prize pack and a variety of Hawkeye merchandise.

The event also includes four mini-seminars on April 27:

-- "Resumes, Cover Letters, and Career Advice for the New Graduate," presented at 10:30 a.m. by the UI Career Center.

-- "Graduate School Opportunities, Preparing For Entrance Exams Admissions and State Testing," presented at 11:30 a.m. by Kaplan Test Prep.

-- "Real World Personal Finance 101 - Tips for New College Graduates," presented at 12:30 p.m. by the Alumni Loan Consolidation Program.

-- "Practical Tips for Dressing in the Workplace," presented at 1:30 p.m. by Austin Burke and Talbots.

Any student who is graduating is welcome to attend. For more information contact the UIAA at 319-335-3294. For more details, see the UIAA website at http://www.iowalum.com/STAT/atlast.html
