UI Career Center Sponsors Careers Day Sept. 23

Representatives from about 125 companies and organizations will be on campus from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, to meet with students during the University of Iowa's Careers Day. The fair will take place in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). On Sept. 22, Engineering Career Services also sponsoring an Engineering Career Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Iowa City.

The IMU event is designed to provide information and potential job contacts for students in the Henry B. Tippie College of Business and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, but all UI students are welcome to attend. In addition to engineering students, Computer Science and Management Information Systems students are welcome to attend the College of Engineering event at Sheraton.

Several top employers from Iowa and across the United States will be represented at Careers Day on Sept. 23. Students can speak with representatives from national employers such as Kraft, American Express Financial Advisors, Citibank, Archer Daniels Midland and Wells Fargo Financial. Several Iowa-based companies, including Pella Corporation, Maytag and Principal Financial Group, will be at the Careers Day as well.

In addition to the diverse group of companies that will be represented at Careers Day, there will also be representatives from non-profit organizations, state and federal governmental agencies, law enforcement and the U.S. armed forces.

At the Engineering Career Fair, more that 60 employers will be represented. Among them will be such companies as Rockwell Collins, Stanley Consultants, Caterpillar, and the HNI Co. (formerly HON Industries).

"Careers Day is a great opportunity for information exchange between employers and students," said David Baumgartner, director of the UI Career Center. "Students come away with invaluable information about different company cultures, and employers get a face-to-face introduction to some of the best future employees on the market."

Students can have their resumes reviewed before the fair during walk-in hours at the Career Center, 24 Phillips Hall, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday though Friday. All attending companies are listed on the Career Center web site at: http://www.careers.uiowa.edu. The site also includes a list of the majors sought by companies and has direct links to most employers' websites where students can research company information and available positions.
