UI Libraries To Remember September 11 Attacks
The UI Libraries will commemorate the third anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a celebration of our freedom on the North Plaza of the University of Iowa Main Library at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.
UI library staff will remember those who died in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania, observing a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., when the first plane hit the World Trade Center towers. Staff will also distribute copies of the Bill of Rights, provide voter registration materials and encourage participants to discuss what it means to be an American. An electronic diary will be available for participants to record their memories. Refreshments will be served.
The University of Iowa Libraries presents this event as part of The September Project (www.theseptemberproject.org), which coordinates remembrance events at libraries across the nation. The electronic diary and photographic images of the event will become part of The September Project's photographic collage.
We invite you to join us before heading to Kinnick Stadium to watch the Hawkeye Football team take on the Iowa State Cyclones.
