Sorofman, Kelly Named To UI College Of Pharmacy Positions

Two faculty members in the University of Iowa College Of Pharmacy have accepted new leadership positions in the college.

Bernard Sorofman, Ph.D., has been named head of the college's Division of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy, effective Oct. 15. He replaces Barry Carter, Pharm.D., who served as head of the division for the past two years. Carter stepped down from the position to devote more time to his research program, and he will remain at the UI.

A UI faculty member since 1984, Sorofman served in various administrative roles in the Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy Division. He also served as University ombudsperson from 1999 to 2001 and has been serving as associate dean for academic affairs.

Michael Kelly, Pharm.D., has been named associate dean for academic affairs, effective Nov. 15. He replaces Sorofman, who had held the position since July 2001. A UI faculty member since 1994, he is an associate professor (clinical) in the department with a joint appointment in the UI Department of Family Medicine.

In his new role, Kelly will oversee collegiate matters related to student admissions, student advising and assessment, financial aid, and curriculum.

"Dr. Sorofman and Dr. Kelly are tremendous assets to the College, and I look forward to working with them in their new roles," said College of Pharmacy Dean Jordan Cohen. "I also speak for the entire College in thanking Dr. Carter for his excellent leadership of the clinical and administrative pharmacy division over the past two years."
