Trimpe Will Lead A Tour Of '20th-Century American Art' Oct. 31
Pamela Trimpe, curator of painting and sculpture at the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA), will present a tour of "20th Century American Art," an exhibition that features regionalist and early 20th-century American works from the museum's permanent collection, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31.
The tour is part of a series of weekly public tours of the museum's exhibitions, held at 2 p.m. Sundays during the fall. The tours, which are free and open to the public, are led most weeks by museum docents -- trained volunteers who are familiar with the museum and its collections. Trimpe's tour of "20th Century American Art" will be the last curator-led tour in the current series.
The "20th Century American Art" tour will include works exhibited in three of the museum's galleries -- "American Avant-Garde," "Regionalism" and "American Impressionism." During Trimpe's tour of these galleries, she will talk about some of the well-known works on display, adding some new information to her usual discussion and featuring artists such as Stuart Davis and Marsden Hartley. Trimpe will also talk about some of the lesser-known works in the "20th Century American Art" collection.
Due to holidays and museum closings, there will be no docent-led tour on Sundays, Nov. 21 and 28 and Dec. 12, 19 and 26. Victoria Rovine, a UIMA curator, will no longer be leading the tour on Sunday, Nov. 14. A schedule of tours for the spring semester, 2005, will be announced later.
The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
