'Field Of Dreams' Director Presents Oct. 14 Screenings, Conversations
The University of Iowa International Writing Program (IWP) will present two free events with "Field of Dreams" screenwriter/director Phil Alden Robinson on Thursday, Oct. 14:
-- a screening of the 2004 remastered, widescreen "Field of Dreams" and a conversation about the American film industry at 4 p.m. in C107 of the Pappajohn Business Building; and
-- screenings of three of Robinson's Sarajevo war documentaries, followed by a conversation about the media, war and politics, at 8 p.m. in Room 107 of the English-Philosophy Building.
The short documentaries, created for "Nightline," are:
--"Sarajevo Diary," a journey across Bosnia in a relief convoy, arriving in Sarajevo and attending a performance of the musical "Hair";
-- "One Woman's Sarajevo," in which Sarajevo poet Ferida Durakovic tours her city during wartime; and
-- "Sarajevo Spring," a visit to Sarajevo just after the war ended, including the first-ever footage of secret tunnels used to bring supplies into the city.
In addition to adapting and directing "Field of Dreams," Robinson wrote the screenplays for "All of Me," "Rhinestone," "The Woo Woo Kid" and "Sneakers," and he directed "Sneakers" and "Sum of All Fears."
