Author, Entrepreneur Jim Houtz Speaks At UI Oct. 15
Author and entrepreneur Jim Houtz will speak about "Entrepreneurial Marketing and Focus" Oct. 15 as part of the Sandage Entrepreneurial Speaker Series sponsored by the University of Iowa's John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC).
The presentation will take place at 9 a.m. in the Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory, 322 North Clinton St. in Iowa City. The public is invited to attend.
Author of "Seize the American Dream: 10 Entrepreneurial Success Strategies," Houtz has been an entrepreneur since 1967, when he started CyCare, a pioneer in physician group practice software systems, with $1,500 and ten shares of IBM stock. He sold CyCare in 1998 for $270 million.
Houtz has made it his life's work to build companies and the people within them. He is a mentor to young entrepreneurs who have great ideas and an overwhelming desire to achieve success.
Houtz is chairman of Southwest Jet Aviation (SJA). Houtz started SJA in January 1997 after learning to fly his own corporate jet while he was at CyCare. He is also chairman of InteGreat, an electronic medical records firm, and serves as a board member of three other companies. Houtz resides in Scottsdale, Ariz. with his wife Joyce and is very active with venture capital opportunities.
The Sandage Entrepreneurial Speaker Series is co-sponsored by the Sandage Charitable Trust, which was established by Charles and Elizabeth Sandage to support programs with an emphasis on free enterprise and entrepreneurship. Charles Sandage earned three degrees from the UI and was a successful entrepreneur.
