Iowa Writers' Workshop Alumnus Denis Johnson Reads Oct. 21
Fiction writer and poet Denis Johnson, a graduate and former faculty member of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, will read from his work at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in Lecture Room 1 of Van Allen Hall.
Johnson is the author of "The Name of the World," "Already Dead," "Jesus' Son," "Resuscitation of a Hanged Man," "Fiskadoro," "The Stars at Noon" and "Angels." His poetry has been collected in the volume "The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations Millennium General Assembly."
He is the recipient of a Lannan Fellowship, the Salon Book Award and a Whiting Writer's Award, among many honors for his work.
Michael Herr wrote, "There isn't an American voice I love listening to more than Denis Johnson's." And an Elle magazine's review concluded, "To put the matter simply, Denis Johnson is one of the best and most compelling novelists in the nation."
The Writers' Workshop is an academic unit of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
