Biennial 'Faculty Exhibition' Opens At UI Museum Of Art Oct. 15

"Faculty Exhibition 2004," the biennial show of new work by faculty from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will open at the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) Friday, Oct. 15, continuing on view through Saturday, Dec. 11.

The museum's newly renovated North Gallery will display art works selected by 31 faculty members to represent the best of their recent work. These works will represent media taught in the UI School of Art and Art History: printmaking, painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, sculpture, metalsmithing, jewelry, design, papermaking and intermedia.

A reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibition will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 in the UIMA. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Atlas World Grill at the reception; a cash bar will also be available. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

Prior to the opening of the show, the UIMA will present a "Preview Party and Auction" featuring works of art by faculty of the UI School of Art and Art History at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 in the museum.

Admission to the preview will be $50. Works by 25 faculty members will be available for viewing and purchase to benefit the Members Special Exhibition Fund -- a fund that was established to help raise $500,000 to meet a $1 million challenge from the Levitt Foundation. For information or to purchase admission to the preview, call 319-335-1727.

The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
