Alumni Association Sponsors "21st Century Pioneers: Aging In Iowa" Nov. 15
The University of Iowa Alumni Association is co-sponsoring a presentation, "21st Century Pioneers: Aging in Iowa" Monday, Nov. 15, at Briar Cliff University, Stark Student Center, 3303 Rebecca Street, Sioux City, Iowa.
Salome Raheim, Ph.D., director of the UI School of Social Work and Mercedes Bern-Klug, Ph.D., assistant professor of the UI School of Social Work will give a presentation that will discuss some of the major trends in the study of aging, and how those changes are playing out in Iowa. The program will include an overview of how the field of social work is being affected by the older population, and will touch on the topic of how to improve nursing homes and how to help individuals and families who are facing the end of life.
Bern-Klug, a native of Sioux City, is "coming home." As a new faculty member at the UI School of Social Work, Bern-Klug conducts research on issues that affect the well-being of older adults, such as how to improve nursing homes and how to help individuals and families who are facing the end of life.
The UI School of Social Work, UI Foundation, UI Division of Continuing Education are co-sponsoring the presentation along with its Sioux City partners, Briar Cliff University Department of Social Work, Tri-State Graduate Center, and Western Iowa Tech Community College.
