Lactation Expert Available For Interviews
Visiting lactation (breastfeeding) expert Paula P. Meier, DNSc, is available for interviews Friday morning May 28 during her visit to the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Meier is director for clinical research and lactation in the Special Care Nursery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago and is considered a national expert on women who have given birth to premature infants and also on breastfeeding in general. She holds a doctorate of nursing degree.
Interested reporters are encouraged to schedule interviews by contacting Ekhard Ziegler, M.D., UI professor of pediatrics and director of the Fomon Infant Nutrition Unit at Children's Hospital of Iowa.
Ziegler can be reached at (319) 356-2836. He also is available talk about breastfeeding, as well as the Mother's Milk Bank of Iowa, which is housed at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
After her media availability Friday morning, Meier will present at 1 p.m. the L.J. Filer 2004 lecture on "Evidence-based Lactation Practices in the NICU." This presentation is geared for health care professionals and will be held in the Ziffren Conference Room, 1502 John Colloton Pavilion (JCP), of UI Hospitals and Clinics.
