Incoming UI Provost Hogan To Participate In Commencement Ceremonies

University of Iowa's incoming provost Michael Hogan will be one of several top UI administrators to confer degrees during commencement exercises beginning May 13.

Hogan will confer degrees on 70 graduating College of Dentistry students on June 4. He was a professor of history and executive dean of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences at Ohio State University before being named provost at the UI. Hogan is an Iowa native and received his master's and doctoral degrees at the UI.

Nine other UI colleges will hold commencement exercises during a four-day period from May 13-16. Nearly 4,000 degrees are expected to be conferred.

Here is the schedule of commencement ceremonies for each college, including the number of degree candidates:

• College of Pharmacy: Thursday, May 13, 10 a.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 105. Degrees will be conferred by University of Iowa President David Skorton.

• Henry B. Tippie School of Management (MBA program): Friday, May 14, 10 a.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 185. Degrees will be conferred by Lola Lopes, associate provost.

• Graduate College: Friday, May 14, 2 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 740. Degrees will be conferred by President Skorton.

• Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine: Friday, May 14, 7:30 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 145. Degrees will be conferred by Kathleen Buckwalter, associate provost for health sciences.

• Henry B. Tippie College of Business: Saturday, May 15, 9 a.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 525. Degrees will be conferred by Patricia Cain, interim provost.

• College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and College of Education: Saturday, May 15, 9 a.m., Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Number of degrees to be conferred: 1,700. Degrees will be conferred by President Skorton.

• College of Law: Saturday, May 15, 1 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 205. Degrees will be conferred by Cain.

• College of Nursing: Saturday, May 15, 5 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 145. Degrees will be conferred by Phillip Jones, vice president for student services and dean of students.

• College of Engineering: Sunday, May 16, 1 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 165. Degrees will be conferred by William Decker, associate vice president for research and external relations.

• College of Dentistry: Friday, June 4, 3 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degree candidates: 75. Degrees will be conferred by Provost Michael Hogan.

Commencement ceremonies of the following colleges are open to the public: Law; Pharmacy; Henry B. Tippie School of Management; Carver College of Medicine; Liberal Arts and Sciences; Nursing; Dentistry and Engineering. For commencements of the Graduate College and the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, guests must obtain tickets from a graduating student.
