WSUI/KSUI Holds Annual Spring Fund Drive
Public radio stations WSUI-AM 910 and KSUI-FM 91.7, listener supported services of the University of Iowa, will hold their annual spring on-air fund drive running from March 26 through April 2.
"The drive is an opportunity to connect with our listeners," said Kaitlynn Lewis Voigt, WSUI/KSUI marketing manager. "The response of support from our previous drives was awe-inspiring. Our listeners make our radio stations happen."
The weeklong on-air fund drive is a time for listeners to call in and pledge their annual support of the stations. Over 100 volunteers work throughout the week to answer phones. Previous fund drives have raised as much as $217,000 from over 2,000 listeners. WSUI/KSUI relies on the semi-annual drives to support almost a third of their annual operating budget. The support of donors is becoming more and important as the UI deals with budget cuts.
"We depend on the support of our listeners. Our focus this drive is to reach out to new potential contributors while celebrating the impact of our current donors. They really do make a difference," said Voight.
On March 26, there will be a special fundraising week kick-off show of "Talk of Iowa Live from the Java House" that will be simulcast 10 a.m. on both stations. The show will feature live music by classical radio KSUI's own soprano Nancy Hagen, pianist Dan Knight, and bassoonist Benjamin Coelho. KSUI Program Director Joan Kjaer and WSUI program director Dennis Reese will share the long, proud traditions of eastern Iowa's two premiere public radio stations.
Tune in for the fun and celebration, and to find out why your public radio stations need your support now more than ever.
