Program To Focus On COPD, Sleep Apnea

Area residents are invited to hear University of Iowa Health Care experts discuss chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and sleep apnea at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 1220 First Ave. in Coralville.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (OPD), which includes the respiratory conditions emphysema and bronchitis, is the fourth leading cause of death in America. Sleep apnea, characterized by interruptions of breathing during sleep, is found in as many as 18 million Americans.

Hear UI Health Care experts present overviews on COPD and sleep apnea, including:
-- Signs, symptoms and causes of COPD and sleep apnea;
-- Pulmonary rehabilitation options;
-- Lung reduction surgery;
-- The latest in research and treatment options;
-- Learning your sleep apnea score.

A respiratory health fair, including lung risk assessment tests and information about COPD, sleep apnea and smoking cessation, will be held starting at 5:30 p.m.

Part of the "Health For Your Lifetime" series presented by UI Health Care, this program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
