UI Engineering Initiates Legacy Of Engineering Honor Roll
The University of Iowa College of Engineering has created an honor roll called the "Legacy of Engineering" to recognize faculty, staff, alumni, and friends who made exceptional historical contributions toward advancing the college in teaching, research, or service.
The college's induction ceremony of seven charter members will be Saturday, June 12 in coordination with its Alumni Reunion Weekend. The Legacy of Engineering Charter Members are:
--Francis Murray Dawson (left), director, Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research (IIHR), 1936-44; professor of engineering and dean, College of Engineering, 1936-59.
--Philip G. Hubbard (right), research engineer, IIHR, 1954-66; professor of mechanics and hydraulics, 1954-91; UI dean of academic affairs, 1966-71; UI vice president for student services, 1971-90; founder and director, Opportunity at Iowa, 1987-90.
--Karl Kammermeyer (left), professor and head, Department of Chemical Engineering, 1949-72.
--John F. Kennedy (right), professor of fluid mechanics and director, IIHR, 1966-91; chair, Division of Energy Engineering, UI College of engineering, 1974-76; Carver Professor, 1981-87; Hunter Rouse Professor of Hydraulics, 1987-91.
--Floyd Nagler (left), professor of hydraulic engineering, 1920-33; director, Hydraulics Laboratory, 1920-31; founder and director, IIHR, 1931-33.
--Hunter Rouse (right), professor of fluid mechanics, 1939-72; director, IIHR, 1944-65; dean, College of Engineering, 1966-72; Carver Professor, 1972-76.
--Mary Sheedy (left), secretary to the dean of the College of Engineering, 1929-69.
According to UI College of Engineering Dean Barry Butler, the Legacy of Engineering honors the contributions of a variety of individuals, including former deans, directors and the Dean's Office secretary.
