Business Students Recognize Faculty for Classroom Accomplishments
This spring, student organizations recognized faculty members at the Henry B. Tippie College of Business for their teaching excellence.
The Tippie College of Business Undergraduate Leadership Council recognized Sonja O. Rego with this year's Student's Choice for Faculty Excellence Award. Presented on behalf of the students of the College, this award is intended to recognize an instructor in the Tippie College of Business who displays teaching qualities that students admire.
Rego, assistant professor of accounting and Lloyd J. and Thelma W. Palmer Research Fellow, has been on the accounting faculty at the Tippie College since 1999. She taught Advanced Tax Topics and Taxes and Business Strategy this past spring. Her expertise includes taxation of business entities and the sources of differences between financial accounting income and taxable income, especially those related to earnings management and tax planning activities.
Robert J. Hartman received the Gilbert P. Maynard Excellence in Accounting Instruction Award. The award is presented at the annual banquet held by Beta Alpha Psi, the College's accounting fraternity. The award is named after former accounting faculty member Gilbert P. Maynard, and is designed to foster proficiency and dedication of accounting faculty toward academic instruction. It was started in 1982 by Sheldon (BSC54) and Roselind Rabinowitz. Hartman, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, taught Introduction to Financial Accounting and Government and Not-for-Profit Accounting to undergraduates and Corporate Financial Reporting to MBA students. He brings over 25 years of broad-based accounting, audit, cash management and financial reporting experience to the Tippie College, including 11 years as a senior financial manager in a multiple plant manufacturing environment.
B. Ravikumar, the Henry B. Tippie Research Professor of Economics, received the Professional Excellence in Teaching Economics (PETE) Award. This recognition is given annually by graduate students in the UI Department of Economics to a faculty member for "professional excellence in the training of economists." Ravikumar's areas of expertise include macroeconomics, economic growth, income distribution and public finance. He taught at the Tippie College from 1996 to 2000, went to Pennsylvania State in 2000-01, and returned to the Tippie College in 2002. Ravikumar taught Macroeconomics III and Topics in Economics (Advanced Topics in Economic Development) this past year.
Matthew Billett, associate professor of finance and John Hawkinson Research Fellow, and Baba Shiv, associate professor of marketing and Henry B.
