Father-Daughter Team To Share Current Analysis Of Poland July 21 At UI
"
Poland: On the Edge of a Great New Era" will be the focus of a special
summer lecture sponsored by University of Iowa International Programs from
noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 in the International Center Lounge on
the UI campus. It is free and open to the public. People are encouraged
to bring a brown bag lunch.
Jerry and Jennifer Croft, a father-daughter team, will provide a current
analysis of Poland, a country that recently joined the European Union.
They will offer some observations and photos of their recent visit to a
country that few Americans have visited.
Jerry Croft is a professor emeritus of geography at Oklahoma State University
who is currently an adjunct geography professor at the UI, where he teaches
an international studies class each semester. He just returned from a six-week
stay in Central Europe. He will offer an examination of some perceptions
Americans have of Poland, a country that stretches from the Baltic Sea in
the north to the Carpathian Mountains in the south.
Jennifer Croft, who spent the past academic year as a Fulbright scholar
at the University of Warsaw, will offer some observations of her year-long
stay in Poland. She holds a bachelor's degree in Russian and English from
the University of Tulsa and a master of fine arts in comparative literature/translation
from the UI. She has published several articles related to her translations
of Polish writers.
