UI Family Study Of Manic Depressive Illness Invites Participants

Men and women age 16 and older who have manic depressive illness, and their parents, are invited to participate in a family study of manic depressive illness at the University of Iowa Department of Psychiatry. Manic depressive illness is also called bipolar disorder.

The study is part of a larger project funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. The project goal is to identify the genes that may predispose individuals to develop manic depressive illness. This study may ultimately lead to improved methods of diagnosis and treatment for this disorder.

Participation involves an interview in person or by phone and the taking of a blood sample at a doctor's office local to the person's home or other convenient site. Compensation will be provided.

For more information, call toll-free at 888-850-8531 or locally at 353-4369 or contact the study by e-mail: nancy-hale@uiowa.edu.
