Local UI Students Win Scholarship For Study Abroad

The University of Iowa Office for Study Abroad has awarded 20 scholarships for summer and short-term study abroad. UI undergraduate and graduate students from diverse disciplines, ranging from international studies to public health, are spending the summer overseas.

The $500, merit-based scholarships are part of a $65,000 financial aid package allocated by the university to support study abroad. This is the fourth year that this fellowship program has been available.

Janis Perkins, director of the UI Office for Study Abroad, said she is pleased with the university's commitment to making study abroad accessible and affordable for UI students.

"These particular awards were awarded on the basis of the students' academic record, letters of recommendation and statements of objectives," Perkins said. "As the selection committee found the pool of applicants to be highly impressive, these scholarships represent a significant accomplishment on the part of the recipients."
