University of Iowa News Release

July 2, 2004

Eastbound Section of Highway 6 Reduced to One Lane at Hawkins Drive Intersection

A construction project on the University of Iowa campus will reduce a section of eastbound Highway 6 to a single lane during work hours for six to eight weeks. The Highway 6 eastbound lane reduction, between the Hawkins Drive intersection and Newton Road, will be in effect only during actual construction on the site. The reduction is to accommodate the construction of a new safe walkway connecting the Highway 6 and Hawkins Drive intersection with Carver Hawkeye Arena. Work involves construction of retaining walls, sidewalk, and lighting, as well as landscaping. Construction is expected to be finished and both eastbound lanes reopened in mid-August. The new sidewalk should be ready for use in time for the first home football game Sept. 4.
