Hancher Hosts Children's Art Exhibit Feb. 6 - March 10
The University of Iowa Hancher Auditorium lobby will be the site of the 22nd annual Children's Art Exhibit, featuring art by elementary students in the Iowa City Community Schools Feb. 6 through March 10.
The Hancher Guild volunteer organization will host a free reception honoring the artists and their teachers, 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 29.
The exhibition will be available to audience members at all events in Hancher, as well as during the regular business hours of the Hancher Showcase gift shop -- 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
Hancher events during the exhibition are: Cirque Eloize Feb. 6-8; pianist Christopher O'Riley with the UI Symphony Feb. 11; Shakespeare's "Othello" performed by the Aquila Theatre Company Feb. 17-18; a free concert by the UI Symphony Band Feb. 21; the Bang on a Can All-Stars with Terry Riley Feb. 28; and Pilobolus Dance Theatre March 5.
The district's art teachers will select works by students in all the district's elementary schools for display. The artists are also honored with certificates and ribbons at award ceremonies at each school.
