UI Dancers In Company Unveils New Repertory March 4-6
Dancers in Company, the touring ensemble of the University of Iowa dance department, will unveil its 2004 repertory on the company's annual "home" concerts at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 4-6 in the Space/Place Theatre of UI North Hall. The new repertory features works by guest choreographers Zeng Huanxing, Kevin Schroder and Jill Sigman.
The performances are part of a busy spring season of concerts and educational activities for Dancers in Company, coordinated by the UI Arts Share program. The schedule includes performances and/or discussions in Oak Grove, Ill., Centerville, Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield, Coralville and Marshalltown, concluding with performances at Riverfest in Iowa City. Receipts from the home concerts help offset the cost of touring.
The 12-member ensemble, which is chosen by audition, provides UI dance students with practical experience similar to that encountered by professional touring dance companies. The student dancers are required to maintain a diverse repertory while coping with travel and performing in a variety of facilities.
The 2004 Dancers In Company members are graduate student Erica Chinn and undergraduate dance majors Colleen DeRosa, Rebecca Evans, Erin Huisman, Katie D. Johnson, Julia Katcher, Jessica Marasa, Meagan O'Connor, Jennifer Quint, Maggie Rupprecht, Megan Sinnott and Jamie Sweeney.
The artistic director of the company is faculty member Charlotte Adams.
The Dancers in Company repertory features a wide variety of dance styles, including dances selected especially for educational events with young audiences.
