Brand, Grant Interviews To Air On WSUI Jan. 4 And Jan. 5
WSUI will be airing two hour-long programs Jan. 4 and Jan. 5 featuring Myles Brand, president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and former University of Iowa women's athletics director Dr. Christine Grant.
Brand's interview will air at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 on WSUI AM 910. He visited the UI campus recently, and WSUI's Julie Englander recorded his lecture on "Fiscal Responsibility in Athletics" followed by a question and answer session with several members of the UI community.
WSUI will also be airing Englander's hour-long interview with former UI women's athletics director Christine Grant at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5. In the interview, Grant talks about her stance on the state of intercollegiate athletics.
Grant currently teaches in the Department of Health and Sport Studies, formerly Physical Education for Women, which in June celebrated its 100th anniversary. In her interview, she discusses the history of the department and some of the challenges it faced. As a long-time advocate for Title IX, Grant serves as a consultant for many Title IX discrimination lawsuits, and she maintains one of the best Web sites in the country on gender equity.
