Official Hawkeye Bowl Buttons Now Available

The official bowl button commemorating the University of Iowa football team's appearance in the Capital One Bowl is now on sale.

This year's 3 1/2-inch diameter metal button has a black background with glowing ripples of electricity and features the words "Iowa Hawkeyes" in gold lettering, the Hawkeye logo, the Capitol One Bowl logo and at the bottom the date of the game -- Jan. 1, 2005 -- and the opponent, Louisiana State University.

The button sells for $4 at retail stores across the state, including the Iowa Hawk Shop's main store on the Coralville strip at 1525 Highway 6 West. Or visit the Hawk Shop website at http://www.hawkshop.com/.

For a complete list of retail stores carrying the button, or for businesses interested in becoming vendors of the official Hawkeye Bowl Button, call 319-337-8622.

"We're really happy with the design again this year, which continues the University of Iowa's long tradition of exciting bowl buttons," said Dale Arens, director of the UI Athletics Hall of Fame. "The smoldering ribbons of electricity reflect the exciting character of this year's Hawkeye football team. This is a button fans and collectors alike will want to own."

Iowa's Capitol One Bowl invitation marks its fourth-straight bowl game. It started with Iowa defeating Texas Tech (19-16) in the 2001 Alamo Bowl, losing to USC (38-17) in the 2003 Orange Bowl and beating Florida (37-17) in the 2004 Outback Bowl. In addition, this will mark the first time in school history that Iowa will be playing in three consecutive January bowl games. The Capital One Bowl will be Iowa's eighth January bowl appearance.
