Artist Art Spiegelman To Speak At UI
Artist and illustrator Art Spiegelman will speak at the University of Iowa at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union.
His talk is titled "Comix 101: In the Shadow of No Towers" and will highlight his highly political color comic pages, which will come out as a book in September. Admission is free and open to the public.
Spiegelman is probably best known for his Holocaust narrative Maus, which portrayed Jews as mice and Nazis as cats and for which he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1992. His follow up book Maus II continued the story of his parents' survival of the Nazi regime and their lives later in America.
Spiegelman also illustrates for numerous other publications, including The New Yorker.
